Find the perfect spot for your Autumn Photoshoot on the Mountain

One of the best kept secrets of Mount Tamborine is the gorgeous display of red and gold maple leaves which appears every Autumn. European immigrants to the Mountain planted deciduous trees which reminded them of home decades ago, creating tiny patches of Northern Hemisphere seasons tucked away in the rainforest. The best time of year to visit to see this display is April and May, just as Autumn begins in Australia. If you're looking for one of a kind engagement photos or a dreamy Autumn wedding, there's a few Tamborine Mountain venues you absolutely need to visit!

Cedar Creek Estate

Cedar Creek Estate Vineyard and Winery features an assortment of Liquid Amber trees, a close cousin of Maple Trees which put on a specular display every year. With red and gold trees surrounding a sandstone chapel and a series of picturesque ponds and lakes, this Tamborine Mountain venue puts on a stunning display every Autumn.

Tamborine Mountain Botanic Gardens

The Tamborine Mountain Botanic Gardens are an amazing collection of Old Growth Eucalypts, manicured gardens and a Japanese Maple Display. There's so many distinct spots in the gardens for amazing photos, from the traditional Japanese gardens to the cobblestone bridge over a gorgeous lake.

Tip: Unlike our National Parks, the Botanic Gardens close at dusk, so be aware of this when planning timing!

Tamborine Mountain Coffee Plantation

The perfect spot for a quick photo, complete with some excellent coffee! Tamborine Mountain Coffee Plantation, with its onsite cafe, is open from 7am to 3pm weekdays and until 4pm on weekends.

The beautiful garden cafe is an attraction in its own right, with over half an acre of lawn and al fresco terrace seating, perfect for soaking up the sunshine and fresh mountain air.

Roadside Plantings

The Mountain is dotted with maple trees planted by homeowners decades ago, with plenty of spots in public parks and roadsides which could make your perfect photoshoot spot! Slightly lower down on the mountain the landscape changes to pines, paddocks of red and cream grasses and native Eucalyptus trees.

Tip: Find a photographer who has taken seasonal photos on Tamborine Mountain before so they can take you to all the secret spots!

Wedding photos are the one thing that you'll have forever from the big day.

So you should make sure they're awesome! One thing many couples don't take the time to consider is where to have their portraits taken. Your photographer will capture the day as it happens, but you should also think about a location that fits with your personalities, the style of your wedding and will make a beautiful backdrop.

Many of the local venue's have already amazing photoshoot locations on property, however, there are a few locations on and around the mountain you should consider. Here are our favorite locations...

Hangglider Lookout

This western-facing lookout is located on Main Western Road often comes alive with numerous hang gliders. Its the perfect sunset spot with breath taking views.

Tip: Be aware this spot is very crowded on weekends.

Curtis Falls

Curtis Falls is located within the Joalah Section of the Tamborine Mountain National Park.

This enchanting walk begins in wet eucalypt forest beneath towering flooded gums. Notice a drop in temperature as the wet eucalypt forest merges into lush rainforest. There are beautiful photoshoot locations along the way but be aware, the walk is approx. 20min to the falls and can me very wet.

However, if you have the time, this place is a guarantee for some amazing photos.

Tip: Be aware this spot is very crowded on weekends.

Botanical Gardens

The Botanic Gardens combine a colourful and diverse range stunning photoshoot locations.

The Gardens include a glorious lake as the centrepiece, a tranquil Japanese garden, a tropical rainforest walk and many other delights.

Knoll Section

Walk & Lookout

The Knoll” picnic area and lookout is one of the many hidden treasures on Tamborine Mountain. From the car park its just a 150m walk to lookout.

Tip: Be aware this spot is very crowded on weekends and small car park

How to find the right Wedding Celebrant

You have decided to get married by a celebrant, as opposed to by a minister of the church, so what do you need to do now?

When choosing your wedding celebrant make sure you choose a registered celebrant. You can find the register of marriage celebrants here: marriage.ag.gov.au/marriagecelebrants/

It is a good idea to pick a celebrant you like on a personal basis, as this will make your journey together so much more enjoyable. It is also a good idea to pick someone who comes across as professional. Great attributes for this profession include being creative, collaborative, adaptable, organized, have a good voice, being well presented, calm and relaxed. The last thing you need at your wedding day is a frazzled celebrant in tattered clothes! Ask them how many weddings they have done and get them to show you their portfolio, maybe you can even check with some of their previous couples on how they liked their ceremony. Also check on how many ceremonies your wedding celebrant does on a day. One per day is best, 2 is possible for a well organized professional, but with 3 you are just asking for trouble and you just won’t get the personalized service you deserve.

Once you have found a celebrant you are happy with, check their availability and fees and ask for their initial info pack. Make your booking once you are happy or you might lose them to another couple.

The service provided by the celebrant is divided into firstly the legal documentation and registration of your marriage and secondly the design and delivery of your wedding ceremony.

For the legal part you need proof of identity, proof of birth, lodge form 13 ‘Notice of Intended Marriage’ or NOIM, form 14 declaration, documents to be signed on your wedding day and lodgement of form 16 after the marriage is solemnised. The legal part sounds like a lot of paperwork, but your celebrant will take care of it all, so don’t worry. No less than 1 calendar month before the date of your wedding make sure you complete, sign and deliver to your celebrant your marriage notice form (NOIM). This is a legal requirement and needs to happen or your wedding might be off.

The more enjoyable, and uniquely ‘You’ part, is the actual ceremony. The celebrant will organize a meeting with you, have a chat, and ask you a bunch of questions. Answer all the celebrants’ questions truthfully and get them to send you their ceremony draft, if you haven’t done one already. Now is the time to make any changes and make the ceremony your own. A week or two before the wedding, the celebrant will organize some sort of rehearsal, which might see some minor tweaking. It is best not to say all the words at the rehearsal – keep that for the big day!

If you don’t know what to say at your ceremony yet, get your celebrant to send you examples of other couples ceremonies or just google ‘wedding ceremony examples’ online. Alternatively use the questions the celebrant is asking you, to get the framework for your vows. A good celebrant will gauge what you are comfortable with and will guide you to and through your perfect ceremony.

Here are also a few practical hints to put your mind at ease and get your ceremony running smoothly:

1. WALKING DOWN THE AISLE

Have the music work around you, so instead of practicing your pace down the aisle with your bridal party and praying that the flower girls walk on cue without getting distracted, you can now just let things happen naturally. This is a much easier and stress-free way to make your grand entrance.

2. FLOWER GIRLS

If you have flower girls and/or a ring bearer, give them bubbles to blow while waiting. This will keep them occupied and you will get the most adorable pictures. Also a good idea to have an adult outside of the wedding party responsible for the little ones.

3. VOWS

Rather than memorizing your vows and living in fear to forget them at the crucial moment, get your celebrant to prompt you or have them written down. Movie stars make it look so easy, but don’t be fooled, they get more than 1 take for every scene or alternatively prompts get edited out!

4. CONFETTI, FLOWERS AND BUBBLES

If you dream of walking out together as a couple to an eruption of bubbles or a burst of rose petals, you will need to arrange these in advance and let your Celebrant know so they can cue the guests when to shower you with these. Also check with the venue – there might be restrictions.

5. NAME CHANGE

It is completely optional if you would like to change your name. If you do, take your official registry issued marriage certificate and update your name with every business and government organisation you are connected to (e.g. banks, drivers licence, passport, life insurance etc).

6. HONEYMOON

If you are planning to change your name and start your honeymoon straight after your wedding day, make sure you book your honeymoon still with your old name. Airlines simply won’t let you on the plane if the name on your plane ticket doesn’t match the name on your passport. Calculate that it will take about 6-10 weeks to get all the changes through.

Mount Tamborine has a very moderate climate.

The temperature rarely goes above 30 deg C averaging some four or five degrees cooler than the surrounding lowlands in Summer, and in the winter there is only the occasional frost in protected valleys. The annual rainfall is about 1,550 mm falling mainly between December and March.

To ensure that the memories of why you love her and want to marry her are captured forever, try incorporating a personal keepsake into your proposal and find a way to capture the moment.

When you spend a lot of time planning a proposal, you want to make sure to remember every detail of the big day. If you want the best pictures possible, engage a professional photographer. If you are happy with the photographers work, you can then also engage him or her for your wedding photography, giving you peace of mind that everything will be captured the way you like it.
The best proposals are the ones that have special meaning for the two of you. To get you thinking of how best to go about it, here are some ideas for you to start from...

USEFUL PROPOSAL TIPS

Make sure you capture the perfect memory of your proposal on camera.
Make sure your love feels and looks her best for the big day. Make an excuse for her to dress up without revealing your plan.
Part of the excitement of getting engaged is the surprise of the proposal. Make sure none of your friends and family involved in the event will give the surprise away.
If you don't want your family and friends there for the entire proposal, find a way to keep them present but not crowding around when you propose.
When travelling to a special location, take care of the ring. If you’re flying, take it in carry-on, but not in your pocket, as the metal detectors will go off and spoil the surprise.
If you propose on Tamborine Mountain, take into consideration that the evenings can be breezy and cool, so have her pack a jumper - you don't want her to be more focused on how cold she is than on you.
Wear her favourite shirt of yours, or dress to coordinate with her outfit for pictures.
You can use the proposal photos on your invitation for your upcoming wedding invitations
Instead of proposing at the end of the night, after all the activities you planned, start off with the proposal and then enjoy an evening filled with romantic events. That way, you won't be nervous all night.
Whatever you do, don't read your proposal. You must look into her eyes and talk from the heart. If you are really nervous, jot down some key phrases or things you want to mention on a "cheat sheet". Speak slowly and don't forget to breathe.
If you are ‘old school’ and asked her parents for their blessing beforehand, try to capture that moment and show her. If she has children (from a previous marriage), ask them as well.

No bride is an expert at preparing, managing and planning a wedding. There are a multitude of professionals that can help you with every aspect of your big day, just make sure you talk to everyone in detail, so everybody knows exactly what you want from them. Don’t be afraid to question what is being arranged on your behalf and make sure you are happy with all aspects of the plans. Do not feel intimidated or embarrassed to say that the pricing is outside of your budget or the colours are all wrong or the whole thing is just plainly getting out of hand. There is always an alternative solution to achieve your desired result.

Good communication is key, but keep in mind that some of the hardest people to be honest with are your friends and family. Everyone is there to make this the best day for you both and to make you happy – some people just might to get reminded of that!

To help you not to feel overwhelmed by the whole process, here are a few tips to stay calm and collected.

Learn to meditate or practice mindfulness before your big day, so you feel comfortable and find it easy to use these techniques on your wedding day. These techniques are great for any stress full time of your life, so it’s a great skill to learn.
On your wedding day start with at least 10 minutes of meditation to calm yourself and energize. Begin your meditation by setting aside your mental lists of all the things you still need to do, clear your mind and focus on yourself. Make sure the place you are in is warm and has some soothing smells, lavender or chamomile are ideal.
Wedding days are always very busy, so the best technique to use during the day is mindfulness. Take control of your mind by paying attention to your body. Take several slow, long breaths and focus on feeling the beat of your heart. Just before you walk down the aisle breathe in slowly the fragrance of the flowers in your bouquet. Feel the petals on your skin. Relax your fingers, hands, shoulders, jaw and breathe. Feel your feet grounded in your shoes on the floor. Breathe in and imagine yourself almost floating. Calm down, breathe.

These techniques will help you savour every moment of your big day without getting overwhelmed and feeling the whole thing as a barely conscious blur.
